Not investment advice
Coteau ("Coteau", "we") publishes research, data and education about stocks and rules-based investing models. Nothing on this site is investment, financial, tax or legal advice, a recommendation, or an offer or solicitation to buy or sell any security. We don't know your finances, goals or risk tolerance, and nothing here is tailored to you.
Models, backtests and portfolios
Backtested results are hypothetical. They are simulated on historical data with hindsight, count stocks only while they were in the index but still miss companies that were later acquired or delisted (some survivorship bias), and include only an estimate of trading costs. No real money was invested. Live track records are measured from published picks with real prices but are still hypothetical portfolios, not managed accounts. Past performance, simulated or live, does not predict future results. Models can and do lose money, sometimes a lot, and can underperform the market for long stretches.
