What this is. This summary was generated by the Coteau Planner from numbers you typed in. It is a general educational illustration. It is not investment, retirement, tax, insurance, legal, credit, real-estate or benefits advice, and it is not personalized to you.
Not an adviser or broker. Coteau is not a registered investment adviser, broker-dealer, certified planner, tax professional or insurance agent. Using the Planner or this summary does not create an advisory, fiduciary or any other professional relationship. Coteau does not manage money, hold accounts or execute trades.
Hypothetical results only. Every figure, chart, percentage, date and amount is a hypothetical estimate from your inputs and simplified assumptions. The estimates may be completely wrong; real results will differ, sometimes by a lot. Nothing shown is a prediction, guarantee or promise, or a suggestion to save, spend, borrow, repay, invest, buy, sell, hold, claim a benefit, buy coverage or take any other action.
Simulations and scenarios. The withdrawal pages run 2,000 yearly paths with a fixed seed: stock and bond returns are drawn at random around the averages below, in today’s dollars, with a stock share that glides down toward retirement. Scenarios (other retirement or claiming ages, spending changes, a downturn at retirement, a partner dying early and others you turned on) re-run the same paths with one or two inputs changed. They are illustrations of sensitivity, not forecasts. Taxes are simplified (2026 federal brackets, capital gains rates, NIIT, taxable Social Security, RMDs and the 10% early-withdrawal penalty); state taxes, Medicare IRMAA surcharges, the Roth 5-year rules and many other details are not modeled. The projections or other information generated by the Planner regarding the likelihood of various outcomes are hypothetical in nature, do not reflect actual investment results and are not guarantees of future results. Results may vary with each use and over time as inputs and assumptions change.
Your inputs are unverified. Account balances, holdings, contributions, employer match, debts, income and expenses are exactly what you entered. Nothing is linked to or checked against any bank, brokerage, lender or employer. Tickers shown are labels you added; they are not an analysis of those securities.
Taxes and pay. Take-home pay uses published federal, FICA and state tables for one tax year with standard deductions only. It omits local taxes, credits, AMT and many real-world details. The snapshot score and rules of thumb shown (about 15% of pay toward retirement, 3 to 6 months of essential costs in cash, the 50/30/20 split) are commonly cited rules of thumb, not personal advice.
Insurance. Whole life, term and annuity figures are your own entries, illustrated with simplified growth. They are not policy illustrations or guarantees; surrender charges, loan interest, lapse taxes and MEC rules are simplified. Whole life cash value is counted in assets and net worth, premiums in expenses, and death benefits in the coverage math.
Debts and net worth. Payoff dates and interest assume fixed rates, on-time payments and no new borrowing. Net worth is assets minus debts as entered; a mortgage is netted against home equity you entered.
Data sources. Return and inflation defaults draw on Aswath Damodaran's annual returns data and Robert Shiller's monthly S&P 500 and CPI data; Social Security figures are your own estimate (confirm at SSA.gov); tax tables are from IRS and state publications for the year shown. Past returns don't predict future results; index returns aren't investable and ignore fees, costs and taxes.
Your privacy. The Planner computes in your browser and keeps your inputs in this browser's local storage. If you choose "Save to my account", the plan, including its name, is encrypted on your device (AES-GCM 256 with a key derived from your passphrase by PBKDF2-SHA256, 600,000 iterations) before it's sent. Your passphrase never leaves your device. Coteau, including the site owner, can't read saved plans, and can't recover a plan if you forget the passphrase. Backups hold only the encrypted data.
